Vojvodinian Early Music Association
VEMA
Vojvodinian Early Music Association was founded in October 2011.
VEMA is a young nonprofit organization which goal is to promote and support interest in all forms of music composed before the nineteenth century through:
-encouraging the study and performance of early music using authentic instruments, principles and interpretation.
-Promoting research.
Members of VEMA are professional and amateur musicians, instrument makers, teachers, students, concert-goers, music and music history lovers.
VEMA seeks to encourage and foster communication between people from the region and abroad active in early music through organization of social gatherings and presenting informative events.
VEMA was founded in October 2011 by the initiative of Meila Tomé Pihler, a young recorder and traverso player from Brazil. Meila moved to Novi Sad, Serbia, in 2010 and soon realized that the region was lacking an iniciative in promoting and presenting Early Music. Together with Vladimir Tegeltija, Vladimir Pihler and Ana Mirosavljević, her ambitions to promote Early Music in the region became a reality and VEMA started with the organization of events, concerts, also with networking and collaborating with other musicians from different regions from Serbia and other countries.
We successfully organized Vojvodina's first Early Music Festival. "Dani Barokne Muzike" brought young professionals from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Slovenia, Germany, Croatia and Serbia together, making a perfect environment for cultural and knowledge exchange with free concerts, masterclasses and lectures directed to everybody interested in historically informed performance practice.
VEMA also seeks to establish a good ground of research on 17th and 18th century music in Vojvodina. With the collaboration of Srđan Ercegan, writer and journalist from Novi Sad, we will publish once a month texts about history, culture, music, social life, and other activities that took part on the daily life of people from Vojvodina until the end of the 18th century.
